RCSLT campaigns
The RCSLT regularly undertakes campaigns on specific issues around speech and language therapy. Here is a flavour of our activities:
Young offenders and criminal justice
It is estimated that 60% of young people in the youth justice estate have a communication disability. The RCSLT is currently calling for the communication needs of young people in the justice pathway to be met in an efficient, adequate and timely way.

Children and young people with communication needs
In July 2008, John Bercow, MP, launched the report of his review into services for children and young people (0-19) with speech, language and communication needs. The RCSLT played a key role in the review and continues to work to improve these essential services. The RCSLT also continues to work with Government to implement its Better Communication Action Plan in response to the Bercow Report.

Improvements in stroke care
2008 saw the RCSLT focus on the improvement of speech and language therapy services available to stroke survivors with communication difficulties. Groundbreaking surveys across all four UK countries showed the real-life experiences of stroke survivors and formed a powerful tool with which to lobby governments.
