Working with Government

The RCSLT aims to work with Government, politicians, civil servants, the Allied Health Professions Federation (AHPF), the HPC and others.

Decisions about health and education issues that link to speech and language therapy services are now made by the national governments in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, as well as in Westminster.

Many decisions affecting SLTs are taken by non-departmental bodies such as the HPC or strategic health authorities.

Pursuing a constructive role, the RCSLT is keen to work with decision makers and key partners, to get the right result for members.

Policy team objectives

  • The RCSLT will influence developments in workforce planning to protect the interests of SLTs and people with communications needs
  • We will improve commissioners' understanding of speech and language therapy and the needs of people with communications needs
  • We will work with government and the NHS, to build a body of evidence that informs policy and practice.
