Health Profession Council Rules
The majority of decisions on the process remain similar to the proposals outlined during the consultation. The HPC will publish further guidance in spring 2006.
However, these are the highlights to date:
- The rules and standards for CPD were approved in July 2005 (outlined below). Although compliance with the rules and standards will not be put into effect immediately, HPC registrants are advised to begin to prepare themselves for this now.
- The CPD audit process will not commence until July 2008, to give registrants time to be fully prepared for the audit. The audit will look at records collected during the two years preceding the commencement of the audit. This means that HPC registrants will need to be able to demonstrate their adherence to the standards from July 2006.
- Chiropodists/podiatrists and operating department practitioners will be the first two professions to be audited. In the original published proposals, SLTs were due to be audited in July 2007, because this was when SLT registration renewal occurred. However, because the audit has been postponed to allow registrants more time to prepare for the audit, the SLT audit will be in 2009.
