Recording a video clip for Giving Voice
The RCSLT is collecting short clips of different people completing the statement ‘I’m Giving Voice because….’ The clips don't have to be very long, with around 20 seconds being the ideal length. We will use these on our website and to promote the campaign in different ways. If you are unsure about what to say, here are some example statements:
I’m Giving Voice because……
…my granny had a stroke...
…I benefitted from speech therapy when I was a young child
…I think it’s important everyone has the chance to communicate their needs
To record your clip please follow the easy steps below (Please note you will need a YouTube account):
- Firstly, you will need something to record your clip with. You can use anything from a professional video camera to a digital camera with a video function; you could even record your clip with a webcam.
- Our site pulls the video from YouTube so you will need to up load it there first. Fill in the fields for your YouTube clip as follows: Title: (e.g. Andrew Giving Voice in Belfast). Description: (e.g. Andrew had a stroke in 2008 and the speech therapy he received enabled him to regain his speech and swallowing skills. Andrew recorded this message at Giving Voice event where he was helping explain the importance of speech and language therapy to local politicians). Tag: type in givingvoiceuk and rcslt. Category: select ‘non-profits and activism’. Privacy: keep ‘public’ selected.
- Once you have loaded your clip to the site, right click on the video and select 'copy imbed html'.
- In a new browser window return to the upload page on our website. Right click in the white box next to ‘YouTube video’ and click ‘paste’. This will add your video’s html code.
- Next, copy and paste the details from YouTube to the ‘Title’ and ‘Description’ fields on the upload page.
- All you need to do now is add your postcode (this will provide us with an idea of the area you live not your actual address, we will not send you anything) accept the terms and conditions, add the ‘catpcha’ fields (to prevent spam videos being uploaded) and then click ‘save’.
- Your video should now be ready to view.
Your video will feature alongside videos from politicians, celebrities, speech and language therapists and people who have benefitted from speech and language therapy. Taking part helps demonstrate the range of supporters for the campaign and we’ll use the video gallery to show politicians and the media that the UK public knows that speech and language therapy is a vital and life-transforming service.
If you require any assitance in filming or uploading your clip, please contact Nichola Barry.
