Opportunities for members in Ireland: a great way to get involved

The RCSLT is inviting members to take advantage of two opportunities to stand up and make a difference in Ireland.

Councillor for Ireland

With children and adult services high on the political agenda, the Councillor for Ireland will play a key role in building on the magnificent work of the RCSLT Ireland Policy Office and the outgoing councillor Mildred Bell.

The country councillor's responsibilities include:

  • Representing RCSLT members resident in their country at council
  • Attending council meetings four times per year, usually in London, and other meetings as required
  • Acting as an RCSLT ambassador with members
  • Promoting the interests of the profession and its clients to the general public and other key decisions makers in their country

The role provides excellent professional development opportunities to improve your skills in leadership and project management, as well as your communication and influencing skills.

You will also be able to network with other therapists across the UK and develop experience working with government and charitable organisations.

Country councillors are elected by RCSLT members in their country of representation. The term of office for the Councillor for Ireland is from the date of appointment until the annual general meeting in 2010.

P&P Board member

The RCSLT Policy and Partnership Board is also seeking a new Northern Ireland member.

Among other things, the board determines specific policy issues the RCSLT should address; makes recommendations on the membership networks that need to be consulted with/or informed of a particular policy; and informs the RCSLT of local or national issues or policies that may impact on the commissioning of speech and language therapy or pose a risk to professional standards.

The board meets four times a year, usually in London and other meetings as required.

The term of office for the board is from the date of appointment until 2010.

For more information on either position, contact Bridget Ramsay. Tel: 0207 378 3001.

The extended deadline for completed applications was15 January 2009.
