APC project officer

RCSLT seeks SLT to deliver Scottish Government Adult Support and Protection Committees Guidelines Project - the "APC Project"

Secondees welcome to apply

  • Are you committed to securing equal rights for people with communication support needs?
  • Have you got experience of developing protocols, guidelines and accessible documents for organisations trying to be "communication accessible"?
  • Would you like to lead a Scotland wide project for the government?

If yes, yes, yes - you might be the SLT we are looking for.

The Scottish Government has commissioned the RCSLT to develop guidance for new Adult Protection Committees (APCs) on how they can enable people with communication support needs (CSN) to have comprehensive communication access and enjoy equal rights under the Adult Protection Act.

APCs (one/local authority) will act to encourage and hear complaints and consider action in respect of abuse of vulnerable adults, among whom there are adults with CSN. For the Adult Protection Act to work for adults with CSN the APCs therefore need to be accessible and responsive to CSN.

The SLT project officer will:

  • Identify communication aspects of the Act's codes of practice (COP)
  • Develop protocols for APCs to ensure appropriate communication supports are available to individuals subject to the Act
  • Produce general communication access guidelines to enable APCs to make all their communications responsive to the broadest population of people with CSN

To do this temporary 50-day project you will be a qualified, HPC-registered SLT with relevant experience, such as project management; experience of managing organisation level "total communication" development project/s; good time management; ability to "multi-task"; and ability to work independently, on your own initiative and under direction.

To enable you to do the project you will be provided with dedicated administrative support for 25 / 50 days of the project. You can work from RCSLT's office in central Edinburgh or alternatively use a hot desk there and work from elsewhere. The project officer will be supported by and accountable to RCSLT Scotland Officer Kim Hartley.

Pay is at mid-point Agenda for Change Band 7. Secondees or independent practitioners are welcome to apply. The project will run from day one of appointment to end September 2009, although may be extended depending on start date. Days do not need to be worked consecutively.
