Senior SLTs: apply for a clinical director post that could put you at the heart of the restructured NHS. Closing date 9 January
The NHS Commissioning Board is advertising 18 national clinical director (NCD) posts and is looking for senior clinicians to lead improvement in the quality of care within a number of clinical fields, including:
- Maternity and Children
- Mental Health
- Urgent Care
- Stroke Integration and Frail Elderly
- Dementia Cardiovascular Disease
Each director will design and deliver commissioning tools to support new ways of working within their field. They will also work collaboratively with other NCDs to ensure there is coherent commissioning guidance to clinical commissioning groups and specialised commissioned services.
RCSLT CEO Kamini Gadhok says, “The RCSLT has been calling for a strengthened allied health profession voice in the new English NHS structures. We need more SLTs and other AHPs in influential roles in the commissioning board or other bodies.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for SLTs to compete for one of these very influential national clinical director posts.”
Apply before 9 January
Karen Middleton, chief health professions officer at the Department of Health, is encouraging AHPs to apply for relevant posts and has offered to talk to anyone interested in applying (tel: 0207 210 5011). Alternatively, you can contact Shelagh Morris
“These posts are for clinicians working in practice with a national or international reputation in their field,” Karen says.
“Leadership skills are the most important to evidence beyond obvious high level clinical knowledge in the field. Handling the press, dealing with royal colleges, but also engaging all clinicians is really important.”
