Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists welcomes new president

The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) is delighted to announce that George Cox, former Director General of the Institute of Directors (IOD) and current chair of the Design Council, has agreed to become its new president.

Commenting on Mr Cox's appointment RCSLT CEO and Professional Director Kamini Gadhok said the RCSLT was extremely pleased he had chosen to work with the College.

"Given George Cox's outstanding reputation and achievements, I'm sure many organisations have been clambering for his time," Ms Gadhok said.

"I am impressed when he says he wants to become engaged and play an active role in the RCSLT. In the short meeting we've had with him he has clearly demonstrated his business acumen and we're very much looking forward to working with him."

  • George Cox started as an aeronautical engineer, became involved in computers in the mid-1960s and spent most of his business career in IT. He formed a business in 1977, presiding over its growth and international expansion until it successfully floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1990. Before his role at the IoD, George Cox was chairman of Unisys in the UK and head of service-based businesses throughout Europe. Other roles have included serving on the management board of the Inland Revenue and the boards of the London International Financial Futures Exchange, Bradford & Bingley, Shorts and the Supervisory Board of Euronext.
