HPC registration update
31st October 2005
The RCSLT has become aware of SLTs who attempted to register with the Health Professions Council (HPC) well before the 30 September deadline, but who were not successful. We would like to know the extent of the problems that have occurred.
If you have been affected, email Sylvia Stirling and state when and how you sent off your payment and any other correspondence, and whether you have had problems contacting the HPC after finding out you are not on the HPC Register.
A message from HPC Stakeholder Manager Sarah Dawson:
The renewal period for SLTs finished on the 30 September 2005. The HPC has now removed from the Register everyone who did not return their renewal form on time.
The HPC lapsed 972 SLTs. This represents approximately 9% of the number of renewal notices sent to registered SLTs.
HPC Director of Communications Chris Middleton explained, "The HPC expects to lapse some registrants, either because they are no longer practising or no longer use the protected title."
You can check registration on the HPC Register
If your name does not appear on the Register, but you wish to be registered, then you will have to apply to go back onto it.
It is important that if you wish to return to the Register you will need to complete a readmission form that can be downloaded from the HPC
It is illegal to practise under the protected title speech and language therapist if you are not registered with the HPC. Each individual is responsible for maintaining his or her own registration.
If you or your colleagues require any advice or support regarding this matter you can contact the HPC registration department on 0845 300 4472 lines are open Monday-Friday 8am - 6pm GMT.
