Bercow ten years on

In response to concerns about the support for children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and major changes in the education and health system, I CAN, children’s communication charity, and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) are undertaking a national review of support for children with SLCN in England.

Bercow: ten years on will provide an independent review of the state of provision for children’s speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).  The eighteen month project will include several phases which seek to gather evidence regarding support services, engage with relevant stakeholders and experts, and influence and inform national and local decision-makers regarding this issue.  We plan to publish a report in early 2018, which will bring together the outputs of the review and include strong local and national recommendations.

Call for evidence

As part of the launch of Bercow: ten years on, I CAN and the RCSLT have launched an inquiry into support for children with SLCN. We are inviting individuals and organisations to make written submissions sharing their experiences of the reality of SLCN support and information for children, young people and their families and the impact of this on outcomes for children and young people.

Take part in our call for evidence.
