Statement on the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists accreditation by the UN

The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists has been accredited as an NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) by the United Nations at the Conference of States Parties to the CRPD (Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability) by consensus at the first meeting at the CoSP 11th session on 12th June in New York.

This now means that the RCSLT can send delegations to the Conference of State Parties to the CRPD, participate in UN meetings as well as the Civil Society forum concerning the implementation of the Convention and host side events at similar conferences, making the case for communication disability internationally.

Kamini Gadhok MBE, CEO of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists said today that “RCSLTs accreditation as an NGO will enable us to take forward our strategic aims to work with partners at an international level, to continue to influence for people with communication disability in our endeavours to ensure that communication is recognised as a human right as part of the International Communication Project”.
