About the RCSLT evidence-based clinical decision-making tool

Why we have developed this tool

What would you do if you wanted to use an intervention approach on a client that you thought will be beneficial, but you were unsure of the available evidence to support it or could only find evidence for it for a completely different client group?

What if you have been given the resources for an intervention that does not have an evidence base?  Perhaps you have read some recent evidence that suggests a different intervention to that which is offered by your service and you would like to use it with one of your clients.

Our new, interactive evidence-based clinical decision-making tool is here to support SLTs at all stages of their careers in all of these scenarios and more.

Key features

An interactive decision tree helps you to take account of the degree of evidence available for an intervention that is appropriate to the setting and client with whom you are working.

The tool also provides extra resources and support on finding the evidence, appraising the evidence and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions.

More information

Please remember that this is just a tool and is designed to support your decision-making.  It is no replacement for your knowledge, skills and clinical expertise, which will drive your decisions as an autonomous professional.

The key principle is to consider each client individually and make clinical decisions based on the client and the evidence base, whilst always working within national guidelines, when they exist, and within local and employer guidelines.
