Communication and swallowing webinar

26 February 2015

The RCSLT is a member of the Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) – a charity which brings together organisations across England, committed to transforming the lives of people living with dementia and their carers. The DAA runs a programme of free webinars. The RCSLT is delighted to have been invited to present at one of these events.

The webinar looked at the pivotal role that speech and language therapists (SLTs) play in the dementia care-pathway. Panelists discussed how SLTs fit into the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), delivering care and support to those living with dementia. They also looked at the type of outcomes commissioners want around dementia and discuss key points from the RCSLT’s new dementia position paper.

Chaired by the RCSLT’s Director of Policy and Public Affairs, Derek Munn, the webinar included presentations from:

  • Lindsey Collins, Dementia Care Consultant Trainer at the School of Dementia Studies, University of Bradford
  • Alison Williams, SLT, Team Leader and Clinical Lead, Manchester
