Adult Support and Protection Communication Toolkit

People with communication support needs are known to be at greater risk of harm than other people.

Why does communication matter for Adult Support and Protection?

The toolkit is for anyone implementing the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act (2007). It provides communication access guidelines, advice and practical resources for those implementing the Act - so that people with communication support needs who are at risk of harm or who are being harmed can more easily access protection afforded by the Act.

Who should use this toolkit?

Anyone who has responsibility under the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act (2007). The Act ONLY APPLIES in Scotland. Some of the materials in the toolkit may also be of use to those working elsewhere in the United Kingdom, for example those with responsibilities under the Protection of Vulnerable Adults (PoVA) Scheme which applies to practitioners in England and Wales.

Toolkit Improvement

If you develop ‘additional’ practical communication resources based on the materials and guidelines in the toolkit which people with communication support needs have found helpful please let us know. Subject to RCSLT professional governance, we can add your helpful materials to this toolkit (crediting you of course) for others to use.
