Interoception Unpacked: What Are We Really Talking About? From Theory to Clinical Practice
19 November 2025, 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM via Zoom
The event will not be recorded to encourage open discussion. Participants will receive a summary sheet of key issues & references. Slides will not be distributed.
A chance to pause, reflect and discuss — through conversation and shared learning, we’ll build our understanding of interoception and how it connects to SLT practice
Agenda:
9:30 – 9:45 – Welcome & Introduction
9:45 – 10:30 – Introduction to Interoception: Neuroscience & Controversies, Dr Debbie Bethlehem
10:30 – 11:15 – Interoceptive Assessments & Interoception in the SLT Literature, Dr Sylvia Taylor-Goh
11:15 – 11:35 – Break & Reflection: While having a break, take a moment to reflect on four quick questions to help you think about applying interoception in practice.
11:35 – 1:15 – CEN Group Discussion: Interoception in SLT Practice. Facilitated by Kirsty Mansfield
Topics for discussion include (and lots more):
- Understanding Interoception
- Is it best understood as a distinct sense, or part of wider body awareness and sensory processes?
- Identifying Challenges
- In what ways might interoceptive differences or difficulties show up in practice (e.g., eating, emotions, behaviour, learning)?
- Exploring Interventions
- What approaches are people currently using or trialling, and how are they being understood?
- Applying in Practice
- Should work in this area be done individually, or can it also be supported in groups?
1:15 – 1:25 – AGM: Looking ahead: Committee goals and work in progress.
1:25 – 1:30 – Conclusions & Close
The cost of the seminar is £5.00 per person.
