New Bulletin autumn issue out now

3 October 2025

The latest issue of Bulletin looks into the world of advocacy and influencing. How can we make our voices heard and raise awareness of the needs of people we support?

In this issue of Bulletin, we meet people from across the speech and language therapy profession and beyond, uniting their voices to create change.

In our cover feature on page 22 we bring you the story of a powerful campaign to meet children’s increasing communication needs, led by the RCSLT team in Northern Ireland. Over the past three years, they have created a successful community collaboration and reached the ears of decision makers. Their most recent output was the Language Launchpad project, but keep watching this space for more updates!

Influencing and campaigning techniques aren’t only for politicians: you can use them at work too. We’ve got a beginner’s guide to advocacy on page 34, including tips on stakeholder mapping and understanding how decision-makers think. Whether you call it advocacy, influencing or lobbying, those skills can come in handy at work for many different things including improving your service or raising funding.

Our Policy and Public Affairs Teams at RCSLT are based across the four UK nations, and they are dedicated to making sure that government policy and NHS practice works for our profession and for people we support. You can find out more about what our PPA teams do in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Also in the magazine you can read about a new clinic for DLD being piloted in London, as well as an exploration of group voice therapy with trans adults. And our Chair of Trustees, Irma Donaldson, shares her personal reflections on being a carer and how that shapes her view of healthcare.

Bulletin is written by and for our members and we love hearing from you, so please send us your feedback by email or social media. Please let us know if you wish your letter to be considered for publication.
