The RCSLT has contributed to the development of a new e-learning resource for allied health professionals entitled Digital and Data Foundations: practical skills for UK AHPs.
The digital education programme, launched by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), in collaboration with RCSLT and other AHP bodies, has been designed to give AHPs a chance to build foundational skills in data and digital, irrespective of the stage of their career, role or location.
The programme has been fully funded so is free to access for all UK AHPs (including students and support workers), users will just need to create an account with the NHS Digital Academy to access the course. Although hosted by the NHS England Digital Academy, access is also open for those not working in the NHS and working in other parts of the UK.
The programme is modular and bite-sized allowing learners to access and use the learning resources when it is appropriate for them. It is supported by multimedia, interactive content, case studies from real AHPs, and reflective activities to support the AHP to apply the learning in their own team, service or setting.
One case study highlights how NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde implemented the RCSLT Online Outcome Tool (ROOT) within their adult acute SLT service to improve collection and reporting of Therapy Outcome Measure data. It details the adoption process, challenges faced, lessons learned, and practical advice for introducing electronic data collection in clinical practice.
This course gives AHPs a chance to build foundational skills, coupled with relatable clinical examples to normalise the safe and effective use of digital and data in health and social care. When used appropriately, digital technology can improve health and social care service provision and patient experience.
