The new guidance is our first bespoke guidance on Parkinson’s and has been created in collaboration with Parkinson’s UK
Guidance on how speech and language therapy can support people with Parkinson’s is now available on the RCSLT website. Covering all aspects of SLT involvement and describing best practice when working with people with Parkinson’s at all stages of their lives, the new guidance has been created in collaboration with Parkinson’s UK and people with lived experience of Parkinson’s or atypical Parkinson’s and the RCSLT.
Speech and language therapists play a key role in supporting people with Parkinson’s and atypical Parkinson’s, providing assessment, support and rehabilitation for difficulties with communication, saliva, eating, drinking and swallowing.
What does the guidance cover?
In addition to best practice for SLT involvement, the guidance explores the differentiations between Parkinson’s and atypical Parkinson’s to help guide differential diagnosis and individualised interventions.
The public information highlights how people with Parkinson’s can get the most out of SLT input. All the information developed is open to the public and we hope can be used to improve input for those with Parkinson’s or atypical Parkinson’s.
Where can I find the guidance?
The new guidance is available on our webpages, separated into guidance for SLTs and clinicians and for the public.
