RCSLT welcomes new Director of Professional Development and Innovation

The RCSLT is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Krystina Stanway as Director of Professional Development and Innovation.

Krystina will join the RCSLT on 2 March 2026 from Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, where she is currently Assistant Director of Allied Health Professions (AHPs). She is a qualified speech and language therapist (SLT) with extensive experience at senior level and clinical expertise in mental health, learning disability and forensic services. Krystina also has a PhD in palliative care and is a member of the RCSLT’s Professional Practice and Policy Committee (PPPC).

Krystina said: “I’m thrilled and honoured to step into the role of Director of Professional Practice and Innovation. I’ve had the privilege of working with Allied Health Professionals to drive transformation and innovation in the Cheshire and Merseyside region and now I’m excited to focus on my main passion which is being a speech and language therapist. I’m looking forward to working at the RCSLT alongside some incredible staff and members and to continue to drive the profession to be the best it can be”.

Dr Krystina Stanway’s biography

Krystina qualified as a speech and language therapist in 2010 from Manchester Metropolitan University and completed her PhD in 2024. She began working in Adult Learning Disability services but over the years also worked in Adult Community and Forensic inpatient services. Her clinical work is predominantly complex dysphagia and supporting with risk management and decision-making for those with mental health conditions.

Krystina’s PhD and subsequent research have focused on the role of speech and language therapists in supporting legacy work in palliative care services, particularly for young people. She is co-lead for CAHPR Cheshire and Merseyside; represents AHPs on the Research and Innovation committee for the regional Integrated Care Board; and is on the North West RCSLT Hub Committee. Krystina has a particular passion around supporting individuals to reach their potential and developing career pathways in leadership, research, and clinical practice.
