Dr Jacqueline Benfield is a Clinical Academic Speech and Language Therapist with over twenty years of experience specialising in post stroke dysphagia. She is a Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for Rehabilitation and Ageing at the University of Nottingham and the Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist for Stroke at the Derby Stroke Unit.
Jacqueline’s research explores innovative rehabilitation and biofeedback technologies to improve swallowing recovery after stroke. She has secured competitive funding, including an NIHR Clinical Lectureship, and has lead on and contributed to multiple peer reviewed publications and collaborative projects. Contributing her clinical and academic expertise to national policy and guideline development, including the National Clinical Guideline for Stroke and the NICE Stroke Rehabilitation Guideline.
She also represents the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists on the Intercollegiate Stroke Working Party. Committed to advancing research capacity in her specialty, Jacqueline founded and leads the UK Post Stroke Dysphagia Research Network, a national community supporting collaboration, skill development, and innovation in the field.
