Here is a message from Prof. Cummings:
“Please let me introduce myself. My name is Louise Cummings. I am the series editor for Routledge Research in Speech-Language Pathology. The focus of the series is to give prominence to novel topics in speech-language pathology, and areas of work that have not been extensively researched within the profession.
To this end, I would like to engage editors and authors for a book provisionally called Narrative and Storytelling in Speech-Language Pathology. This volume will, ideally, examine the use of narrative and storytelling by speech-language pathologists in the assessment and treatment of individuals with a range of developmental and adult-onset conditions. No particular perspective or approach to narrative and storytelling is taken. My own interest in the topic arises from the use of narrative production tasks in the assessment of adults with a range of neurodegenerative conditions and, more recently, adults with Long COVID. The depth and richness of the data that these tasks have provided me in my work cannot be matched, in my view, by other forms of assessment. The time is right, I believe, to produce a comprehensive synthesis in a scholarly volume of the narrative and storytelling work that is undertaken by speech-language pathologists.
