One year on from our launch, support workers and their managers are asked to evaluate our support worker resources.
Our support worker hub was launched last year to provide speech and language therapy support workers and the SLTs who manage them with vital information, tools and resources. It was developed in response to feedback from a 2021 RCSLT survey into support workers, which identified issues such as a lack of clarity around job roles and career progression as well as limited support systems and training.
The hub aims to support equitable and consistent training for support workers, with clear progression routes and guidance on professional training and development in both workplace learning and formal settings. A support worker framework was also created as a practical tool to be used in speech and language therapy services, with the aim that it would reduce risk, ensure safe and supported delegation, and meet the needs of support workers.
One year on from releasing the hub and framework, we want to evaluate the resources we produced to ensure they are meeting these aims.
We have created a short survey which is open to both support workers and those managing support workers. It is a very important part of our evaluation and will inform us of the gaps in this area and what our future work should focus on. We ask that those managing support workers encourage all the support workers in their services to fill in this survey, regardless of membership status.
The deadline to complete this survey is 23 July and should only take 10 minutes to complete. If you have any questions, please contact saskia.whittaker@rcslt.org.
