The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) is delighted to announce the appointment of Steve Jamieson MSc, BSc (Hons), RN, as Chief Executive.

Steve joins the RCSLT from the Royal College of Podiatrists where he was CEO/General Secretary and brings with him a wealth of experience in managing professional bodies in the healthcare sector. A nurse by profession, Steve was Deputy Director of Nursing at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and CEO at The Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted. He is also Trustee of Dementia UK and Chair of Dementia UK Admiral Nurses Clinical Committee.

RCSLT Chair Sean Pert said: “I’m delighted to welcome Steve to college. During a rigorous recruitment process, Steve demonstrated his wealth of experience in developing membership organisations. A compassionate and insightful leader, Steve’s experience in building effective relationships with service users, staff, stakeholders, sponsors and trustees will be invaluable to the long-term success of RCSLT.”

Steve Jamieson said: “I’m absolutely thrilled and honoured to be joining RCSLT. This is an incredible organisation and profession. I’m passionate about representing RCSLT members and will do everything in my power to make sure the voices of speech and language therapists are heard loudly and clearly.”

Steve will take up the role of RCSLT Chief Executive in March 2023 when the current Chief Executive Kamini Gadhok MBE retires after 22 years at the helm. The RCSLT would like to thank Kamini for her longstanding dedication to the organisation, her numerous achievements on behalf of the profession, and wishes her a long and happy retirement.

Biography Steve Jamieson MSc, BSc (Hons) RN

An experienced Chief Executive/General Secretary and senior health leader, Steve was CEO and General Secretary at The Royal College of Podiatry. Prior to this Steve was CEO of The Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, where he was instrumental in guiding the organisation successfully through a period of change and development resulting in the Hospice receiving an outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission.

A nurse by profession and a prominent nursing leader, Steve was Head of Nursing at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and was responsible for leading on the RCN’s professional nursing agenda, and delivering its mission to represent nurses and nursing, promote excellence in practice and shape health policies. Steve’s distinguished professional career includes roles as President of the European Association of Nurses in AIDS Care and working as part of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and World Health Organisation on projects relating to HIV/AIDS.

A proven track record of building effective relationships with patients, staff, stakeholders, sponsors and trustees. Steve has experience of working across the Allied Health Professional Federation in all four nations of the UK.

Steve is an accomplished speaker for UK and European audiences and is a Trustee of Dementia UK and is Chair of Dementia UK Admiral Nurses Clinical Committee.
