SEND reforms - share your views

26 March 2026

Find out more and share your opinions about the UK Government’s plans for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in England

The UK Government has published a consultation document detailing their plans to reform the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) system in England: SEND reform: Putting Children and Young People First.

RCSLT’s response

The RCSLT issued an initial response based on a first reading of the proposals in February this year, welcoming this ambitious vision but with a number of questions about how the reforms would be delivered in practice.

We’ve now produced a more detailed summary of the reforms to support members to understand how the proposals fit together and the further implications for the profession. The summary includes a content page to help you to navigate to sections most relevant to your work.

To inform the RCSLT’s formal response to the government’s consultation, we have created a survey for members to gather your views and insights. The survey contains a subset of the questions from the Government consultation, supplemented by a small number of additional questions where we would welcome member input to inform our wider influencing work.

We recommend you read the summary above before completing the survey. Please note: you do not need to respond to all of the questions, please select the ones that are most relevant to you and your role.

The deadline for responses to this survey is Monday 20 April.
