RCSLT is seeking views on updated guidance regarding the disabled student experience on pre-registration SLT courses.

The new guidance will replace ‘Guidance on Disability Issues in Pre-Registration Speech and Language Courses (2009)’ and include relevant and updated information for disabled students on pre-registration SLT courses, higher education institutions (HEIs) providing the courses and placement educators supporting disabled students on these courses.

The consultation is open to all members, stakeholders, and others who may have an interest in this topic. We are particularly keen to hear from students, HEIs and placement educators.

The draft guidance is available to view here, which will be presented as content on our website rcslt.org in its final form.

The content includes information for disabled students about what they can expect and how to access appropriate support and the responsibilities of HEIs and placement educators such as reasonable adjustments and the support they offer e.g. DSA, support summaries. It also includes case studies to support each section including examples of good practice and key places to seek support or escalate concerns.

Please provide your feedback by completing our survey by 9am on Monday 16 October 2023.
