We’re looking for speech and language therapists with an interest in recruitment processes and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) to form the RCSLT’s new Selection Panel. Find out more about the opportunity and how to apply.

The creation of the Selection Panel is the next step in our work to improve the diversity of RCSLT boards and committees.

The process for recruiting trustees and committee members has already been radically transformed by putting in place a Nominations Committee – as voted for by RCSLT members at our last annual general meeting (AGM). Find our more about the Nominations Committee.

The next steps are to recruit members for a Selection Panel so that you can have a say in who oversees the governance of the RCSLT and ensure they are truly representative of you and your community.

What is a Selection Panel?

The Selection Panel is a group of members with an interest in or experience of recruitment.

The panel will take part in interviewing prospective Trustee and Committee members. They will then make their recommendations to the Nominations Committee on the most appropriate candidates for the positions available.

Joining the Selection Panel is a great way to get involved in the work of the RCSLT and will provide a unique insight into committee work. It’s great experience, a chance to shape the future of the RCSLT, and it contributes to your CPD diary too!

Who can join the Selection Panel?

All full RCSLT members can apply to be part of the Selection Panel – whether you’re a student, newly qualified practitioner, certified SLT or retired member, we want to hear from you. Including a range of perspectives is essential to ensuring we can appropriately support and represent the profession.

Perhaps you’ve previously been involved with recruitment processes which support equality, diversity and inclusion, or maybe you just have a strong interest in how they work and want to gain more experience.

Full support will be provided so that Selection Panel members feel confident taking part in interviews – so don’t worry if you don’t have experience of this already. The most important thing is a passion for the profession and a commitment to creating a more diverse and inclusive RCSLT.

Applications are open to all members who are allies of minority groups and champion equality and diversity both personally and professionally.

We welcome applications from members from under-represented groups, such as members who are Black, Asian or have a minority ethnic background, members from the LGBTQ+ community, or members with a disability.

Selection Panel members will need to commit to around two days a year for the role, preferably over a period of two to three years.

How do I apply?

Application to be a Selection Panel member is by written, video or audio personal statement telling us a little about your work and personal background and why you’re interested in being part of the Selection Panel. Find out the full details on how to apply.
