Updated sets of service guidance open for consultation

10 June 2025

Consultations on eight topic areas which are linked to meeting HCPC standards will run until 12pm on 14 July 2025.

As part of reviewing our guidance on meeting and using HCPC standards to underpin practice, we’re also updating some of our related guidance. The delivering quality services section of the RCSLT website brings together all our recommendations and advice about processes, professional conduct and practice which sit outside clinical guidance. This section covers a wide range of fields and topics, ranging from helping members plan service wide provisions to advice on goal setting and duty of care.

We’re planning to update 8 of these areas which are most relevant to meeting HCPC standards, and we’re offering our members the opportunity to have their say on the proposed guidance.

Who should give feedback and why?

We have split the guidance and consultation surveys to allow you to provide feedback on as many or as few areas as you are able. While at first glance many of these topics might seem to only be applicable for service managers, we are actively encouraging members at all stages of their careers to review and feedback on all topics. This will help to ensure the guidance covers all aspects of the topic and the particular challenges and opportunities faced at different career stages and in specific roles. Some of the topics cover day to day managing and monitoring of services and patient load (e.g. care pathways and delegation) and other more specific guidance which might only be applicable to people working in certain roles, for example the guidance on using Interpreters during therapy or on Workforce planning.

Three of these drafts (service planning and responding to proposed changes in service; workforce planning, staffing and resources; and quality services and quality improvement) will replace the information currently found within the service planning and improvement section of the website.
